II. PD: SEE Strategy
1) What is the SEE strategy for?
Short written response is a thinking skill.Short written response is a thinking skill. It can improve critical thinking and life skill.
Life skills are useful for all facets in life and not just in academic writing.
SEE is a strategy that students can use to write short response.
2) Why the SEE strategy?
The SEE strategy is a student-friendly way to say Claim It, Cite It, and Cement It. The SEE strategy is a school-wide focus where writing can be done in any classroom. The SEE strategy is also a good way to gather information on student learning quickly so that teachers are able to give timely and effective descriptive feedback.
3) Why are we coming up with a new writing strategy?
The SEE strategy is for a different purpose. It makes Claim It, Cite It, and Cement It our own and makes it more student-friendly. It does not replace MEAT that is meant to be used for essay writing. It is short response writing that can be used for all subject areas.
4) How is this connected to what we are doing?
We are continuing our school wide focus on Literacy across the curriculum. SEE works hand in hand with Sitomer, Gallagher, Schmoker, and Hattie – all strategies that we have discussed. It increases the volume of writing, it is connected to our success standards, and it is a good way to gather info on student learning so that teachers are able to give timely descriptive feedback.
